Welders are the most important machines that are needed by a worker in any factory or company. There are different types of welders according to their use. Electric Resistance Welding, Arc Welding, Spot Welding etc. But now there is one more type which is TIG Welder (also known as Gas tungsten arc welding). The TIG welder uses gas tungsten arc welding for its operation and works with the help of an electric arc between electrode and workpiece to melt filler metal into the weld area to form the desired weld shape.
Here I’ll give you some basic information about how it works (if you want more detailed information then click here ).
First, the tungsten electrode is heated up to about 7600°F (4200°C) using electricity. A gas like argon or helium is used as shielding gas for arc welding, so it flows through the torch head and a plasma arc is created between tungsten electrode and the workpiece.
The tungsten filament gets melted by the heat of the electric arc and filler metal gets added into that molten pool of tungsten wire to form a weld at desired shape.
TIG Welders are widely used in making automotive parts, motorcycle parts, fabrication of steel structures etc.
